Temple of Poseidon

Temple of Poseidon
Greece, Athens
The Temple of Poseidon is located on Cape Sounion, at the southernmost point of Attica. The temple building was built by 440 BC. e. and was a rectangular building, framed on four sides by a colonnade. Fifteen columns and the remains of an epistelion, decorated with the plot of the battle of the centaurs with the lapiths and the struggle of Theseus with the bull, have survived to our time. The cliff offers a beautiful view of the waters of the Aegean Sea.

Cape Sounion is one of the most poetic points in Greece and the southernmost outskirts. It is here, at the "end of the world" that lovers of myths and mysteries of the past, as well as romantics who dream of seeing sunsets of indescribable beauty, strive to get. I will say right away that such sunsets can be seen in other places and on the islands, it is always beautiful. Entrance fee -10 euros. You need to arrive early, about 1.5 hours before sunset, as there are a lot of cars and tourists. We arrived almost 2 hours before and it was already difficult to find a good place to park.

We arrived in the evening to admire the sunset overlooking the Temple of Poseidon, which opens from Cape Sounion, to take a photo for ourselves. Can't be put into words. There really was a beautiful sunset here, the majestic ruins of an ancient temple on a high mountain, the endless sea, everything created a very romantic mood, one of those brightest shots that are remembered for a lifetime.

Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. Magnificent temple, especially at sunset. A beautiful panorama opens up from the cape.
