A 16-hectare park located in the center of Athens. Five hundred species of different plants grow on its territory. Every third tree is over 100 years old. Ancient Greek ruins have been preserved within the National Garden - the remains of walls, columns and mosaics. The garden was created in the 19th century by the will of Queen Amalia. Initially, vegetables and fruits were grown there for the royal kitchen. Now the former vegetable garden has turned into a green oasis in the middle of the stone city.
It also contains 6 ponds, pergolas, a sundial, a botanical museum, a children's library, a café , a playground and a small zoo, which was built during the reign of George I. Also in the National Garden are five marble busts of Ioannis Gabriel Eynard (Ioannis Kossos), Spyridon Samaras (Michalis Tompros), Dionysios Solomos (Thomas Tomopoulos), Ioannis Kapodistrias (Ioannis Kossos), Aristotle Valaoritas (Fokion Rock) and one bronze of Jean Moreau (Emile Antoine Bourdelle).
