As work began on the monastery in 1315 and it began to take shape, the vertical structure moved outside the city walls. The monastery, badly damaged by an earthquake in 1667, was rebuilt and regained its former glory thanks to the hard work of the monks and city dwellers.

The architectural center of the Dominican Monastery is its late Gothic cloister, created in the 15th century by the Florentine architect Michelozzo di Bartolomeo. The fragrant orange trees growing here are conducive to a pleasant relaxing holiday.

There is a museum in the east wing of the Dominican Monastery. Among the exhibits are numerous religious paintings of the 15th-16th centuries, made in the style of the Dubrovnik school of painting (also called Venetian). The most significant canvases depict St. Vlach and St. Mary Magdalene. The museum displays interesting objects made of gold and silver, as well as other relics.

Unique collection of paintings

This monastery is famous primarily for its unique collection of paintings. The main exhibit of the museum is a painting by Titian. The monastery complex combines many architectural styles from different eras, from Gothic to Renaissance. It fits very harmoniously into the ancient defensive structures of the city. Inside the monastery is a beautiful courtyard and a museum that you can visit.→
