Pile Gate

Pile gate
Croatia, Dubrovnik
The Pile Gate has been the main entrance to the city for centuries. From them begins the main street of the city - Stradun. Previously, the Pile Gate was surrounded by a moat, ending in a drawbridge, which was built in 1537. The former drawbridge has now been turned into a pedestrian alley, and the moat has become a beautiful garden. In the niche of the arch of the Pile Gate there is a statue of St. Vlach, created by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. Inside the rampart there is a door preserved from 1460.

Through these gates you will enter the old city if you come by public transport or on a guided tour. These gates, as it were, symbolize the transition from the modern world to the ancient and mysterious, with its secrets and wonders. Suspension bridge and moat, the feeling that got into medieval times. But there is nothing special to look at - the gate is like a gate. Above them is a statue of St. Vlach, the patron saint of the city. In the evenings, sentries stand by the gate. At 22:00 you can watch them change.
