Jagatnath Palace was erected in 1953 in honor of the supreme Balinese deity Sang Hyang Vidi. The shrine is built of coral and rests on a turtle that symbolizes the globe. Serpents (nagas) guard the turtle. Around the sculptural groups depicting episodes from the "Ramayana" and "Mahabharata".
