The Golden Circle is a popular tourist route that starts and ends in Reykjavik. During an eight-hour excursion you can visit: Thingvellir National Park, listed in 2004 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Gulfoss waterfall; the valley of geysers Haukadalur; the crater of the Kerid volcano with a lake at the bottom; the village of Hveragerdi with greenhouses in thermal springs; a church in Skáulholt and the Nesjavedlir geothermal power plant.
