The Fountain of Neptune in Bologna is located in the square of the same name, adjacent to Piazza Maggiore. It was built in the sixteenth century. at the request of Cardinal Legate Charles Borromeo, the famous sculptor of his time - Giambologna. The fountain is interesting for its shape and sculptures: in its center, on a pedestal, stands a bronze statue of Neptune with a trident in his hand, which is surrounded by various inhabitants of the sea kingdom - dolphins, sirens and other mythical creatures. The figures of the fountain have a rather frank and piquant look. There are also several interesting legends associated with it. Now it is one of the symbols of Bologna, attracting the attention of numerous tourists of the city.

One of the symbols of Bologna
Several legends are connected with the fountain. It is said that the nakedness of Neptune so confused the honorable inhabitants of Bologna that the church ordered to put on bronze statues on the statue. Students believe that in order to pass the exam, you need to go around the fountain twice counterclockwise - just as the Jumbologna fountain went around, considering the design of the statue of Neptune. Place of meetings and rendezvous
The center of the city of Bologna is Piazza Maggiore and Neptune, the latter is decorated with the fountain of Neptune (Fontana di Nettuno) of the 16th century in front of the even more ancient Cathedral of San Petronio of the 14th century. This fountain has become a universally recognized place of meetings and rendezvous, although students have chosen Rossini and Verdi squares for this - the oldest University in Europe is located in Bologna.→
