Built in 1477-1480, the monastery was reconstructed by architect GG Monti in 1687. The architect has preserved a valuable terracotta portal of the XV century by Sperandio.
During the bombing of the city in 1943, the monastery and the oratory were significantly destroyed. In the interiors - frescoes by MA Franceschini (1687-1695), numerous sculptures and paintings. The immortal body of St. Catherine de Vigri is kept in the chapel. Terracotta sculptures have been preserved on the corners of the building, partially damaged. An inscription on the plaque near the main entrance reads: "Luigi Galvani's bones are kept in these walls. "
