The Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore is located in the city center southwest of Piazza del Duomo. It was built in honor of the Great Martyr Lawrence in the 4th century and restored in the 16th century. The basilica has the shape of a quatrefoil, the central platform is surrounded by a bypass gallery. Near it is the octagonal chapel of St. Aquilinus, where his relics rest.
