Seborga

Principality of Seborga
Italy, San Remo
A village and a virtual state in western Italy, near the border with France. In the middle of the 20th century, the villagers, taking advantage of a legal incident, proclaimed the independence of the "Principality of Seborga" from Italy. The fact is that Seborga in the Middle Ages was a feudal principality, later included in Italy. However, in 1963, one of the inhabitants of Seborga, George Carbone, found out that there is not a single document confirming that Seborga is part of Italy. In the same year, Seborga declared independence, and Carbone, who revealed the inconsistency, became the first prince of the new dwarf state. Seborga, with a population of just over 300, has its own constitution, government, army (two border guards plus the minister of defense), and even its own currency, the luigiano. As for the Italian authorities, they do not pay attention to the actions of the "principality", because the inhabitants of Seborga, like ordinary Italians, pay taxes, vote in general elections, there are no conflicts between the legitimate authorities and the inhabitants of Seborga, and the actual control of Italy over Seborga is not contested. In fact, the independence of Seborga is declarative.

Do you know about the existence of the ancient principality of Seborg? It is one of the most amazing micro-states located in the depths of the Ligurian Mountains, near the Nice-Genoa highway. Twenty minutes away - a serpentine from the shores of the Mediterranean - and you find yourself in an amazing city, which is all built of stone and as if grown from a mountain. The streets here are no wider than a double bed, and the area is the size of a dining table. Here the sun shines for half a day, and for half a day the clouds walk, which enter the open doors of the cafe, shake the linen on the ropes.
