After that, hundreds of places of worship of the Shingon school were built on the mountain to receive numerous pilgrims.

The main attractions of the mountain include the Kukai mausoleum in the middle of an ancient cemetery, a hall with several thousand lanterns, Kongobuji - the main temple of Shingon, a rock garden, a tomb of the Tokugawa family, Kompon-daito pagoda, the Reihokan Museum with a collection of statues, scrolls and sumie (ink paintings) depicting famous Buddhist preachers. The mountain can be reached by rail from Namba Station in Osaka to Gokurakubashi Terminus at the base of the mountain. To the top of the mountain, at a height of about a kilometer, you can climb the funicular. From its upper station, buses run directly to the temple complex.

Few people know that the sacred mountain Koya-san is located 80 km from Osaka. And this is not just a mountain, there is a town on it with numerous temples and monasteries of the Shingon Buddhist school. The first temple was founded in 819. And from Koya-san begins the ancient Kumano-kodo pilgrimage trail to the Kumano Shinto shrines. But this is not just a trail, but one of the two pilgrimage trails in the world, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here is a quiet and beautiful place where you can forget about the daily bustle and immerse yourself in Zen (especially if you stay in one of the monasteries for a few days).
