The pedestrian area of Guillaume II is located in the historical part of Luxembourg on the site where the Franciscan nunnery was located. Because of this, locals sometimes call the square "Knudeler", which means the monastic belt. In the center of the square there is an equestrian monument to King Guillaume II of the Netherlands, who at one time was also the Duke of Luxembourg. The town hall is located on the south side of the square. There is also a monument to Michel Rodange, the author of the "Novel of the Fox", in the form of a fountain with a statue of a fox.
Near the square is the residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, in a palace built in the Moorish style in 1572.
On the square twice a week in the morning there is a farmer's market where you can buy fresh meat, milk, bread, cheese, and seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The square hosts music concerts, city celebrations.

Pedestrian area

We arrived in Luxembourg for 1 day by high-speed train from Brussels. In principle, there was enough time to walk around the city, go on a tour on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, shop in the mall and eat somewhere. Place Guillaume II is a very lively part of Luxembourg. Tourists walk here, locals hurry on business. Weekends include a farmers' market and a flower sale. Also on holidays, a stage is set up for various events and concerts, and at Christmas a Christmas market and a skating rink open. You can get to the square from the Rue de Fosse shopping street.→
