Hermitage on the Amstel

Hermitage Amsterdam, Hermitage aan de Amstel
Netherlands, Amsterdam
The Hermitage on the Amstel is a museum and exhibition on the Amstel River. The museum is a branch of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. It existed since February 2004 as a small museum in an annex overlooking the Niuwe-Herengracht canal, but as a result of the reconstruction of the entire building for the needs of the museum from March 2007 to June 2009, it occupied the entire Amstelhof building. The museum was completely renovated and officially opened on June 19, 2009 by Queen Beatrix and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Since June 20, 2009 the museum has been open to the public.
