Zaanse Schans Museum

Zaanse Schans
Netherlands, Zaandam
The Zaanse Schans Museum is an open-air museum showcasing examples of Dutch architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. On the territory of the museum you can see examples of national wooden architecture brought here in the late 60s of the XX century, as well as famous windmills. About 10 mills and 30 houses are represented here, museums and workshops function in some buildings. The Zaanse Schans Museum is located on the banks of the Zaan River, near the city center.

Everyone knows the symbol of Holland - windmills. Being in the Netherlands and not seeing them is almost impossible. However, if you want to see them closer, see how they work, go inside and see how ancient mechanisms, without any electronics, do the same work that they did a few hundred years ago, then you need to go to the Zaanse Schans . The Zaanse Schans is an open-air museum. Samples of Dutch windmills, characteristic buildings are collected here, as well as the main crafts - a functioning cheese factory, the manufacture of klomps - traditional Dutch wooden shoes and, in my opinion, the most interesting, working mills.
