It is a symbol of Gdansk and one of the oldest monuments in Poland (1615). The legend about the appearance of the Gdansk liqueur Goldwasser is connected with the fountain of Neptune. In gratitude to the locals who generously threw gold coins into the fountain, Neptune hit the water with his trident, breaking the gold into small pieces. Since that moment, these golden flakes (22 carats! ) have graced the local herbal liquor. Traditionally, water in the fountain is released after Easter - this custom has been observed since the 17th century. Neptune is located on Dlugi Targ street, near the Town Hall.
