Krakow main station

Old railway station in Krakow
Poland, Krakow
Neo-Renaissance railway station, construction of which began in 1844. Three years later, the grand opening of the station and the launch of the railway from Krakow to another Polish city, Myslowice, took place. In the 19th century, the station underwent two renovations, as a result of which it acquired an eclectic style that has survived to this day. The last reconstruction took place in 1920. There are three memorial plaques on the facade of the station: to the railroad workers who died in World War II; the outstanding Polish statesman Jozef Pilsudski; Poles - victims of the Second World War.

The cornerstone of the building was laid on October 12.1844. The grand opening of the station and the launch of the railway from Krakow to Myslowice took place on October 13.1847. The building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style by Wroclaw architect Peter Rosenbaum. This style is typical of the Prussian Railway. The western facade had three components, the middle of which was wider and higher. The northern and southern facades had central parts, decorated with tall windows and columns with arches.
