The red-brick gothic temple is located in the historical center of Krakow. Its construction began in 1342 and was completed in 1378. During its centuries-old history, the church has suffered from natural disasters more than once. So, as a result of a powerful earthquake that happened in the middle of the 15th century, the ceiling of the nave collapsed, which was subsequently restored. In the 16th century, the temple was damaged by floods and fire. A second fire overtook the religious building at the end of the 18th century. In 1827, the city authorities wanted to demolish the dilapidated Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret, but the public opposed this. In the future, the temple was reconstructed and supplemented with some elements. The last major renovation took place in the 1970s.

There are several versions of the origin of the church, but the most popular is as follows: a special envoy was sent to King Casimir III, a great admirer of women - the Vicar of Krakow. From tried to understand the ruler, but he did not listen to him and ordered to drown. A few years later, the monarch repented and appealed to the Pope to forgive his sins. He ordered the king to build several temples in the state, among which was the church of Saints Catherine (Catherine) and Malgozhata (Margarita).→
