Wawel Dragon Monument

Smok Wawelski
Poland, Krakow
The Wawel Dragon monument was erected in 1972 at Wawel Hill on Chervensky Boulevard in Krakow. According to legend, the dragon tormented the inhabitants of the city for a long time, until one trickster was found - the local shoemaker Skuba. He tossed a sheep stuffed with sulfur to the monster. When the dragon swallowed the bait, everything began to burn inside him, and he rushed into the Vistula River to put out the flames. And he drank until he burst.

The author of the monument was the Polish sculptor Bronisław Chromy. The dragon statue spews fire every 5 minutes or after tourists send SMS to a special number.

A very original piece of architecture. While the guide was talking interestingly about the Wawel dragon itself. watched with delight the eruptions of fire from the mouth of the dragon. And no one sent any SMS, the dragon has a clear schedule of eruptions for curious crowds of tourists

And I, on the contrary, did not notice that text messages are sent, but the flame from the mouth appears regularly. Of course, the children are delighted.

Bronislaw Chromy undertook to embody the ancient Krakow legend in stone. So the sculpture of the Dragon appeared at the walls of Wawel, on the embankment. Moreover, the people of Krakow turned the monument into self-sufficiency mode : ) If you want to see the fire-breathing Dragon, you need to send an SMS to number 7168 with the text "smok" and then he will show you all his abilities (I personally did not send SMS, but I watched how tourists actively send SMS and the dragon works in response). Legend of the Wawel Dragon.
