Temple Synagogue or Progressive Synagogue was built in 1860-1862 by architect Ignatius Herzock. During its existence, the synagogue was rebuilt many times and got its modern look at the end of the XIX century, as a result of work designed by Benjamin Torbe. In 1924, during the restoration work, the side naves were completed, and some additional elements appeared. Now the synagogue combines elements of Moroccan style and classic German synagogues of the XIX century. Prior to World War II, the Temple Synagogue was a shrine to progressive Jews. Worship services here were held according to the rules of the liturgy, reformed in the XIX century. Formally, these services differed from those held in traditional synagogues - they were closer to Christian services. Women also sang in the choir during the interwar period, and even rabbis with academic education read sermons.
During the Second World War, the occupiers had a warehouse and stables in the synagogue. After the war, the synagogue was opened and is still in operation today.
