We visited this wonderful palace - Palac Obrzycko or Obrzycko-Zamek (the former residence of the Rachinsky family) - one of the first on our trip to Poland. And they didn’t guess at all that this is a hotel where you can live for your own pleasure! Everything looked like a museum in a park with beautiful bridges across the ravines. Currently, it is the House of Creativity and Recreation of the University. Adam Mickiewicz in Poznan, which does not prevent him from receiving tourists. The palace complex has been excluded from the register of historical monuments, although, in fact, it has remained so.
The palace is located in the valley of the Warta River (northern bank), surrounded by beautiful coastal forests that cut into the forest of Notec, the largest dense forest area in this part of Europe. The building itself is located in a large park and overlooks the river on one side.
The Rachinsky Palace was built as a complex in 1862 in the French neo-baroque style, and rebuilt in 1910 - a tower with a traditional and sundial was added. In the 1990s, a major renovation and reconstruction of the palace began, partly funded by a German-Polish foundation. One of the main goals was to restore the interior layout to its original state, giving it new decor. As a result of careful reconstruction, the remains of architectural elements were discovered, as well as historically important inscriptions were discovered. For example, the coat of arms of the Rachinsky family with the motto “live in pursuit of truth” is depicted on the terrace!
Many beautiful design elements have been restored both inside and outside the palace, such as the gilded sundial, the mechanical clock on the tower, the coats of arms above the main entrance and inside the tower. 30.08.
In 2007, construction work related to the reconstruction of the palace was officially completed, also thanks to the receipt of significant subsidies from the European Union. Now the residence of one of the richest and most famous families of Wielkopolska of the 19th and 20th centuries can be admired in all its glory thanks to the efforts to restore the palace to its former splendor, thanks to which we can see part of the world of the 19th century aristocracy.
Guests of the palace will find peace and active rest here. Here you will find opportunities for fishing, picking mushrooms, hiking in the woods or simply admiring Polish nature. In one of the park's ravines, there is an unusual plant called Bear's Garlic (Allium ursinum), which is found in only three places and is included in the rare group. Beavers can be seen on the Warta River. You can also see an eagle owl in the park, meet deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, squirrels and swans.
Nearby, at the Experimental Station of the Poznań University of Life Sciences in Stobnica, you can see a pack of wolves, the most beautiful Polish predators. Poland is striking in the abundance of animals that are almost not afraid of people and this is very impressive, because as it turned out, people and animals can still coexist side by side in the world if people try to behave in a civilized manner.
So it's worth coming here to live, and not just wander around. The palace, which has become a hotel, has: 10 apartments, 2 halls, a conference room for 96 people, a restaurant, a hunting lodge and a park of about 19 hectares above the Warta River. Prices for rooms from PLN 170 per day. But visiting the palace inside (excursion) is possible only in agreement with the owners, although you can just walk around the park without problems and for free (which is not possible in all castles in Poland).
