Lello Bookshop is one of the most beautiful and unusual bookstores in the world and one of the oldest of its kind in Portugal. It was opened in 1906 and in the first years of its existence it was called Chardron - that was the name of the publishing house acquired by the Lello brothers and converted by them into a bookstore.
The facade of the building is made in the Neo-Gothic style with Art Nouveau murals, and the interior is in the Art Nouveau style. The interior of the store is striking in its splendor. Of particular note are the spiral staircase, stained-glass ceiling and fine wood carvings. It mainly sells fiction and scientific books by Portuguese writers, as well as literature in French and English. On the second floor of the store there is a small cafe with four tables where you can read your favorite book or have a cup of coffee.
Lello's bookstore was often visited by the writer J.K. Rowling, so it is believed that he served as a source of inspiration for the fairy-tale world of Harry Potter she created.

Lello Bookshop can be called the most unusual and famous bookstore in Portugal. According to many guidebooks, it is one of the ten best bookstores in the world. It is also said that this is where J. K. Rowling was inspired when she wrote her Harry Potter books. The Lello store opened to the public in 1906. It was designed by the architect Javier Esteves in neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau styles. From the moment of its discovery and up to the present day, it has been owned by the Lello family. The architecture of the building with elements of Art Nouveau and the luxurious interior of the store are admirable.
