Uvan Ice Fountain

Zyuratkul fountain
russia, Chelyabinsk
Uvansky Ice Fountain is located in the city of Sibirka, Chelyabinsk Region. It is also called the "Zyuratkul Fountain" after the name of the National Park "Zyuratkul" in which it is located. The fountain itself is formed by a powerful jet of water as a result of high pressure, and has been beating out of the ground for more than 40 years. In winter, the water freezes and turns into a huge bright blue ice column up to 10 meters high. In summer it is a gushing spring with ice water.

In 1976, geologists were drilling the slope of Mount Bolshoi Uvan in the Chelyabinsk region in search of iron ore and stumbled upon groundwater. Iron was not found, the well was clogged, but the water pressure knocked out the plug. In the summer it is an ordinary spring, but every winter an ice fountain is formed from the water beating up under pressure, reaching the height of a five-story building in cold weather - the colder the winter, the higher the ice column! Pure underground water freezes with pale blue ice.
