It's not hyperbole, it's true. In addition, the Zoo ranks ninth among zoos in Europe and among the top twenty in the world. Its history began not so long ago, and the city is a little over a hundred years old, but the main development took place in the nineties of the last century. In the early seventies, a wonderful person, Rostislav Alexandrovich Shilo, began to lead it, and by what a completely ordinary provincial zoo has turned into, it will become clear how much he loves animals. For a very long time he sought to move the zoo from the city center to the outskirts, practically into the forest, premises for animals were built in the difficult nineties. Now this is the most favorite vacation spot of the townspeople, and, regardless of the time of year: there is a winter pavilion where heat-loving animals are resettled, I myself once watched a couple of young ladies trying to catch a kata lemur with a huge net, the animals are sitting behind glass partitions.
And some - lions, tigers, leopards - feel good in their houses in enclosures. Winter is boring only because many fall into hibernation, but in the spring it often turns out that the population has increased.
Young people are born regularly, it is most reliable to detect this crowd in August. To see the maximum, you should come in the afternoon, feeding takes place between three to five hours, this makes the animals at least come closer to the visitors, the cages are really huge.
Another tip: come by public transport or prepare for the fact that you will have to look for parking. And in the summer there is another way: to get to the Zaeltsovsky Park, leave the car there, and take a train ride along the Children's Railway. Walk for about twenty minutes, the final stop is another entrance to the Zoo.
In the summer it closes at nine o'clock in the evening, the train no longer runs, but it takes about fifteen minutes to walk to the abandoned iron horse along the riverbed.
So, stock up on strength for a minimum of a four-hour walk, the entrance costs 200 rubles, discounts for pensioners and some other categories of citizens, and you can see the incredible diversity of the animal world!
(Swings-carousels and other ice-cream buffets are available, decent toilets, in my opinion, this is important)
