Slottsbacken Street (I always want to call it a square for its impressive size), whose name literally translates as "palace slope" - is the central, in every sense, point of the city. There are so many attractions on it that it seems to be enough to visit this street alone in Stockholm to get the first impression of the city and its history. Here is the Royal Palace; and the Church of St. Nicholas; and the Obelisk erected as a symbol of King Gustav's victories; and a monument to King Gustav, based on the famous Apollo Belvedere; and simply wonderful views of the city from the embankment.
