In the small Florian Square, far from the old quarters, rises the majestic Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God, also called Blumenthal, so as not to confuse it with another city church of the same name. It was built in the area of the Slovak capital, formerly known as the Blooming Valley (German: Blumenthal). Today, a street overlooking Florian Square is named after the old name of the district.

The church was built on the site of an ancient baroque church, which ceased to suit the townspeople with its capacity. Famous master Friedrich Rumpelmeier, a native of Bratislava who lived and worked in Vienna, was invited as the architect. Adjacent to the nave of the new church was a closed presbytery and a high square tower topped with a pyramidal roof. The church was consecrated by Cardinal, Hungarian Primate Dr. Jan Szymor.
Almost half of the population of Bratislava gathered to open a new church, built in 1885-1888. The three-nave neo-Romanesque temple is now used not only for sacred purposes. The magnificent acoustics of the church allow you to organize concerts of classical and spiritual music.

In the vicinity of the church you can see several monuments on religious themes. Some are located behind the high fence of the temple, while others are freely accessible. Not far from the entrance to the church there is a miniature bust of the pastor and canon Josef Poek, to whom Bratislava owes the appearance of the Blumenthal Church. This man did not tire of asking the city authorities for permission to build a new church. Now grateful descendants honor his memory.
The interior of the church includes baroque benches brought here from St. Martin's Cathedral and the image of the Virgin Mary in a neo-Gothic frame, which was brought from Italy by the Bratislava merchant J. Janko in 1770.
