duck fountain

Slovakia, Bratislava
In the historical center of Bratislava, in the middle of the lively Šafárik Square, there is the Duck Fountain. As it is easy to guess from the name, the sculptural composition is dedicated to these birds. The author of the work, the famous Slovak sculptor Robert Kühmayer, also depicted several boys, having beaten the local legend about the water man, who turned the children who dared to get into the underwater kingdom into stone. The neo-baroque fountain is in great demand among tourists and is considered one of the most beautiful in Bratislava. It was solemnly opened in 1914, all the sculptures are made of bronze, and blocks of sandstone and granite serve as a pedestal for them.

In the middle of the lively Shafarika Square is an oasis of peace and quiet - a green square with wooden benches arranged around a small original fountain. He is called Duck, because it is these birds we can see in the sculptural composition that crowns him. According to some researchers, the Duck Fountain together with the Ganymede Fountain compete for the title of the most beautiful and most popular fountain in Bratislava. It is especially loved by children, perhaps because, along with ducks, sculptor Robert Kuzmaer depicted several boys, beating the local legend of the water and the children who turned to stone because they tried to get into the underwater kingdom.
