This area is the concentration of the Sousse traffic flow, from here the main streets of the city diverge in different directions. To the north of Hashed lies a new town with the famous Habib Bourguiba Street lined with shops, banks and offices. In the southeast of the square there is a harbor, and in the southwestern part there was once the Sea Gate, it was they who were the entrance to the bay. A fort was built on this site in the 18th century.
