City and Bay of Phaselis

Phaselis, Phaselis, Phaselis
Turkey, Kemer
Phaselis is a city of ancient Lycia, which was founded in the 7th century BC. e. colonists from the island of Rhodes, led by Lakaios, on a small peninsula protruding into the Mediterranean Sea. Phaselis is located on the road to Tekirova, 16 km from the city of Kemer (60 km from Antalya) among the lush pine and cedar trees of the natural park.
The city has an important geographical position and three harbors: one is located in the north of the peninsula, another in the northeast, and the third in the southwest.
Most of the surviving ruins date from the Roman and Byzantine periods and are located on the main street connecting the north and south harbours. In the theater and agora area there is a small square, on the southeast side of which a staircase leads to the theater and the acropolis. Built in the 4th century BC. e. on the slope of the acropolis, the theater of Phaselis is relatively small (its 20 rows are designed for 3 thousand people) and is a typical example of an amphitheater of the Hellenistic period.
To the right of the entrance to the city are the most ancient walls of the city fortress (3rd century BC), as well as the ruins, most likely of a temple or a monumental crypt. On the slopes beyond the northern harbor is the city cemetery. The most impressive ruins of Phaselis are the aqueduct towering over the car park. There were three agoras in the city: one opposite the theater, the other two on the right side of the main street leading to the southern harbour. The city baths in the area of the city square are also impressive. In two necropolises of the city there are tombs with lids depicting figures of Eros and lions.
On the eastern slope of the acropolis, the ruins of two temples are visible - the temple of Pallas Athena and the temple of the god of trade Hermes. The artifacts discovered during the excavations are stored in the Antalya Museum.

Phaselis is a wonderful nature, clean air, beautiful sea bays surrounded by pine trees ...By the way, you can swim here already at the end of April - the water is still not very warm, the air is cool, but the sea is incredibly invigorating and somehow sets you up in a special way to the desired on a journey like this. The city has a very rich history, so it is better to go here with a guide who will describe everything in colors and show the most picturesque sights. Although, in fact, Phaselis only consists of them, so if you are coming here on your own, without a guide, you will still not be disappointed in any way!.

I liked the shade from the trees, because in most cases it is worth getting acquainted with the ancient ruins either early in the morning or closer to sunset, since they are usually located in the sunniest places. It's not like that here. I liked the tour itself and the fact that you can enjoy fairly well-preserved pieces of ancient civilization. And I liked the clean calm sea here. I advise you to come and see for yourself

Before traveling to Turkey, I read about this place and even planned to go there on occasion, but it turned out that, having climbed a hill not very far from the hotel, we walked along a cliff above the sea and eventually wandered into some ruins, which turned out to be Phaselis himself. So we arranged a free tour. I'm not a big fan of ruins, but there are such views, especially on Mount Tahtali

Touching what was used and where they lived almost 3.000 years ago is incredible. I advise everyone, because I liked everything - from and to. We went on our own (10 lira for the entrance) and swam on the beach. Where are all the blue flags - here is pure pristine nature, open to the tourist (observing cleanliness and order) with all his heart : )

Just imagine for a moment - the 7th century BC. It is difficult of course, but for people with imagination or a passion for the ruins of historical significance, it will be extremely curious here. There are places to wander around and it is pleasant to wander, because the city is located on the territory of a pine forest, which is undoubtedly pleasant in the heat. The beaches are really dirty. Because of the tourists.
