Side Museum

Side Museum of Ancient Art, Side Museum
Turkey, Side
Side is the largest archaeological area in Turkey. To date, most of the valuable finds discovered in the area of this city in different periods of time are in the Museum of the city, which is always ready to present these amazing exhibits to tourists. A large number of exhibits of the museum were found in 1947-1967 during the excavations of this ancient city under the leadership of Arif Mufid Mansel.
A unique part of the collection are children's sarcophagi with a picture of a dog peeping out of the door, personifying a heartbroken mother, butterflies and swallows - symbolic images of children's innocent souls. Here you can also see the bronze statue of Artemis and the head of Apollo, made of white marble.
In the first room of the museum there are armory bas-reliefs from the Hellenistic period, an altar from the Roman period and a sundial. Torsoi from the Roman period are exhibited in the second room. In the third hall there are amphorae, statues, bas-reliefs, inscriptions of the Hellenistic period, and in the fourth - tombs, statues of Atsen, Hermes, Hijia, Apollo, Nike, portraits and torsos.
To this day, the remains of an amphitheater for sixteen thousand spectators, a statue of Emperor Vespasian, the Temple of Fortune, an agora, a fountain, Roman baths (in which the archaeological museum is currently located), an aqueduct and a necropolis have been preserved in Side.

Since September 2017 we have been vacationing in Side. My son and I visited the ancient city on our own, we could not pass by the city museum. Entrance to the museum for one person costs 10 Turkish lira. The archaeological museum is a very interesting place. This museum is an extensive collection of artifacts discovered during excavations. This rich exhibition is shown in the building of the old baths (terma) of the Roman period. The museum is located on the Liman Caddesi (Harbour Street), opposite the Roman amphitheater in close proximity to the center of the ancient city.

I have been to Side so many times and have never gone to a museum there. Finally got there! The museum made a huge impression on me, I am very pleased that I got there. The museum is not large, in the premises of the Roman baths (terms). It was quite hot in early October, air conditioners were working inside the halls. The spectacle is amazing from the very beginning - the entrance to a small courtyard - with the remains of columns, bas-reliefs, decor. ! There are signs with the translation of words from the broken stelae.

There are few exhibits, the museum "rests" in comparison with a bunch of attractive and pretty ruins and ruins. I do not recommend, it is better to wander around the ancient part of the city just like that.

Great place! The ruins just take my breath away! I recommend to everyone here the spirit of antiquity is preserved. The location of the ruins is such that even during noon it is not hot.
