Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus - a monument of the Byzantine era, built in 527-529. near the house where Emperor Justinian lived before his accession to the throne. It is believed that the temple served as a prototype of the Hagia Sophia — hence its second name “small Hagia Sophia”.
After the fall of Constantinople, the church continued to operate, but in 1506 it was partially destroyed and rebuilt into a mosque. In the XVIII century. a ritual fountain and a minaret were attached to it. Once the vaults of the church were completely covered with golden mosaics and frescoes, but now nothing remains of them. Divine services are regularly held in the present mosque, and a Muslim cemetery is located nearby. In addition to the "Little Sophia" itself, you can also visit the tea garden and madrasah.

A small cozy mosque with a Christian spirit
In the past, a Christian church, now it is a functioning mosque. Unlike others, here it breathes maternal warmth. On the way from the Hippodrome to this mosque, it was interesting to get lost in the district, where gray-haired wooden wrecks coexist with prestigious two-story villas.→

Small and cozy Hagia Sophia
A small but homely cozy mosque is located a little away from the main route in the Sultanahmed district. Inside there is a thick soft carpet, warm colors, fresh painting. It works until late in the evening, so I advise you to leave it at the end of the day, when other attractions are already closed.→
