Yeni-Jami Square

New Mosque Square, Yeni Cami Meydanı, New Mosque, Yeni-Jami Mosque, Yeni Cami, New Mosque
Turkey, Istanbul
Yeni Cami Square is a square in the old part of Istanbul on the banks of the Golden Horn. It got its name from the New Mosque overlooking the square. Adjacent to the square are Egyptian Bazaar, Rustampas Mosque and Galata Bridge.
The New Mosque is one of the great mosques in Istanbul. The mosque was built in 1597-1663. The central dome has a height of 36 m and a diameter of 17.5 m. Inside the mosque is well lit, the floor is lined with carpets. The mosque has two minarets. Next to the mosque is the Egyptian Bazaar, which performed the function of providing funding for its construction.

For me, the view of this mosque from the Galata Bridge has become the main and most characteristic view of Istanbul. Not only because it was the first thing we saw every morning when leaving the hotel. Look at the first photo, it perfectly characterizes Istanbul - the Bosphorus, the mosque, trade and a bit of medieval chaos - an integral picture of the city.
