Baturin village

Village of Baturyn, City of Baturyn
Ukraine, Bakhmach
Baturyn is an urban-type settlement in the Bakhmachsky district of the Chernihiv region of Ukraine. Located on the river Seim (Dnieper basin). The capital of the Cossack Ukraine in the XVII-XVIII centuries.

First mentioned in 1625. In 1669-1708 - the seat of Ukrainian hetmans. In 1708, during the anti-Russian uprising of Mazepa, the city was destroyed by the troops of Alexander Menshikov, including all the churches and monasteries. In the official documents of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, these events are called the "Baturyn tragedy".

The hetman's residence in the same year was moved to Hlukhiv. Since that time, the city has been in decline. Attempts to revive the city were made under Hetman Kirill Razumovsky, but after his death, the city finally loses its significance. The baroque palace of the hetman of Ukraine Razumovsky is now destroyed.
Currently, 4 objects are being reconstructed in Baturyn: the palace of Hetman Razumovsky, the house of Kochubey, the Resurrection Church and the Resurrection School at the temple. The village has a cinema and a public library. The bus line connects Baturin with Bakhmach and Konotop. The nearest railway station is Bakhmach. October 7, 2006 Baturyn officially became the "Eastern residence of the President of Ukraine."

The citadel of the Baturin fortress is a very unique building with a long history. This is an excellent place for lovers of history and architecture, for those who want to plunge into the atmosphere of the Cossacks. The fortress was the residence of the three great hetmans of Ukraine. The authentic fortress was destroyed in 1708, it was reconstructed quite recently at the initiative of the president. The renovated citadel is not nearly inferior to the old one. Having visited those places, you definitely feel proud that you are stepping on the land where the great hetmans of our country walked!.
