Dubno Castle

Dubno Castle, Castle in Dubno, Fortress in Dubno
Ukraine, Dubno
Dubno Castle was built in 1492 by the Lithuanian prince Konstantin Ostrozhsky on the site of an ancient Russian fortification. In subsequent years, the castle passed into the possession of other princely families. The fortress was repeatedly tried to capture by the Tatars, Cossacks, Russian and Swedish troops, but it remained impregnable.

Dubno Castle is located on a cape near the Ikva River. The side facing the city is fortified with crownwork and a deep moat. On the territory of the castle there are two-storey palaces of the XVI-XVIII centuries.

The castle, unfortunately, is very poorly preserved. We can only imagine how brilliant he was if he was admired by Honore de Balzac and Adam Mickiewicz, Yaroslav Hasek and Tadeusz Kosciuszko, alas…. For five centuries, not a single enemy could take the impregnable castle. But already in the First World War, the Austrians bombed it with cannons, the Poles restored it a little, then the Second World War, and from 1950 to the 90s a military unit was based there. What they can, they restore. The visit will take 2-3 hours.
