City Park

city garden
Ukraine, Kremenchuk
The city garden of Kremenchug, one of the oldest parks in Ukraine, was founded in 1787 on the initiative of the governor-general of the Yekaterinoslav governorship and favorite of Empress Grigory Potemkin, who lived in the city, for the arrival of Catherine II in the city. For the queen, following from St. Petersburg to the Crimea, a wooden travel palace was even erected, which burned down after 2 years. Fruit trees and oaks were planted in the garden, a ring-shaped lake with a diameter of about 100 meters was dug out on the Dry Kagamlyk River. In 1914, the first fountain of Kremenchug appeared here.
During the events of the First World War and the revolution of 1917, the park fell into disrepair, many of its trees were cut down by the townspeople for firewood. In 1924, the park was transferred to the administration of the railway, a club of railway workers was built, the dilapidated building of which has survived to this day. A small power plant was operating, using the water of the park lake for cooling.
If at the time of its foundation the park was located outside the city, now it is located near the center of Kremenchug, a 15-minute walk from the railway station and bus station. As a result of intensive urban construction, a significant part of the park was lost, the lake became swampy. In 2007, the abandoned park was transferred to the balance of the local football club. In the eastern part of the park, a modern stadium "Flint" was erected. The lake was cleaned, a round pavilion in the classical style was built on the island, to which a beautiful openwork bridge leads, fish were launched into the lake, and swans were brought. The entrance to the park is made in the form of an arch.

This park in the city of Kremenchug has existed for a very long time, but it has never been properly cared for, and therefore only people from nearby houses came to walk here. Although there is a lake in the park, which was created back in 1787 on the initiative of Grigory Potemkin, and the opening was timed to coincide with the arrival of Catherine II. Initially, this park had a fairly large area and was mainly planted with fruit trees, but since it was located outside the city at that time, the townspeople rarely visited it.
