For more than thirty years, a monument to the liberation of the city from Nazi occupation has stood in front of the brewery in Rivne. This is a self-propelled gun on a small pedestal. It was erected in the 1970s and survived the Soviet era, and is now repainted from time to time. Funny, but before the liberation of Rivne on February 2.1944, this fighting machine had nothing to do and could not have. The fact is that in front of the brewery there is a self-propelled anti-tank gun SU-100, which appeared in the service of the Red Army only at the end of 1944, when Rivne was again Soviet for almost a year. But..
Soviet troops attacked the Germans in the city of Rivne from four sides, bypassing the cavalry units. After a 10-minute artillery shelling, the 121st Rifle Division entered the eastern outskirts of the city. And on February 2, at about 6 pm, Rivne was completely liberated from the Germans.
The joyful feeling of victory was filled with sadness: in the battles for Rivne, namely during the counterattack from the Mlyn direction, the entire platoon of Lieutenant Goncharov from the 3rd Fighter Anti-Tank Division of the 19th Artillery Regiment was killed. In their honor, in order to preserve memory and respect, this monument continues to stand, and now fierce battles are being fought for it among deputies, such as to be or not to be.
