In the first half of the 90s of the last century in the city, where there had never been churches, cathedrals or temples, it was decided to build a large cathedral with 13 gilded domes with donations from citizens and patrons. On the site that was allocated for its construction, for many years there was a landmark of the city - an airplane, but it was decided to remove it. On the day of the Holy Trinity, June 19.1994, with a huge gathering of people, on a large area allotted for the construction of the cathedral, the first slab of the foundation of the future temple was consecrated and laid, and already on the feast of the Resurrection of Christ in 2000. the first worship took place. Since 2007 it became the cathedral and the main cathedral of the Severodonetsk-Starobelsk diocese. In the cathedral there is an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker with a particle of his holy relics brought from Bari (Italy).
A park has been arranged around the temple, which houses a memorial complex to participants in local conflicts and internationalist soldiers, a monument to the Cossacks, several commemorative stelae, and a playground. Citizens are very fond of this place in the city, it is one of the most photographed.
