Dzharylgach Island

Island Dzharylgach
Ukraine, Skadovsk
Dzharylgach is an uninhabited and largest island in the Black Sea, with an area of 62 sq. km and a length of 42 km. Located opposite the resort Skadovsk, on the one hand it is washed by the Dzharylgach Bay, on the other hand, by the open sea. The narrow strait from the side of the village of Lazurnoye is often covered with sand, turning the island of Dzharylgach into a peninsula. A national natural park was created on the island in 2009, where you can meet deer, moufflons, raccoon dogs, hares, swans, herring and black-headed gulls.

In 1902, on the eastern cape of the island, at the expense of the leader of the nobility of the Tauride province S.B. Skadovsky, a 24-meter lighthouse was installed, made in Paris according to the project of one of G. Eiffel's students. Not far from the island pier there is a monument to Soviet sailors who fell in battles with the Nazis in 1941-1945. Boats regularly go from Skadovsk to the beaches of the island during the season.

Great place, beautiful nature, huge beach, clear sea. This is not the first time we come. Holidays for lovers of silence and those who are not afraid of living in a tent. More about the sad. The island is actively inhabited by mountain businessmen, there are more and more pavilions with beer near the pier, there is already the first house on the island (I'm afraid that in the near future the "Aryan celestials" will start building their palaces). So hurry up, in a few years there may be nothing left of the beauty of this wild corner of nature.

Not far from Skadovsk is Jarilga? h - an island in Karkinitsky Bay of the Black Sea and the largest island of Ukraine and the Black Sea. The name of the island comes from the Crimean Tatar yar? l? a? or car? l? a? - "swallow", which is most likely due to the fact that there were many swallows on the island. Another version of Bushakov also refers to the Crimean Tatar: yaril means "split" or "crack", agac - "tree". That is, Yarilagac is a "cracked tree", and the name of the island - Yarilagic - translates as "one who is able to split.

The old OM from Skadovsk finally took us to Dzharilgach ...He was so old that I, just in case, remembered the place where the life jackets lay: -) This side of the island was already "inhabited" and had its own " infrastructure. "Here the water in the sea was warm as tea. Houses, sheds, dining room ...But I wanted real wildlife, so it was decided to move to the other side of the island, washed by the open sea. I had to go about 3-4 km. But It's worth it! Salt marshes, plants I've never seen ...and this incredible smell of weeds and the sea .
