Syuyren fortress

Syurenskaya fortress, Syrenskaya fortress, Shivarin, Scivarin
Crimea, Bakhchysarai
There are many interesting monuments of the ancient and medieval history of Crimea in the Belbek Valley. Among them are the Syuyren fortress on the eastern cape of Kule-Burun and the cave monastery Chelter-Koba ("chelter" - lattice, "koba" - cave) on the western part of the beam at the foot of the middle cape Ai-Todor. The defensive wall of the Syuyren fortress with a round tower was presumably built in the 8th century. On the eastern side of the tower there was a gate, the arch of which is now collapsed, and on the western side there was an exit gate. Both in the wall and in the lower part of the tower there are loopholes. On the second floor of the tower in later times, apparently, a fortress was built. It was painted with frescoes, of which fragments have been preserved. The Syuyren fortress, like the Chelter-Koba monastery, was destroyed by the Tatar-Mongols in 1299. Around the same time, the large medieval city of Eski-Kermen also perished.
