The Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic is located in the former building of an Orthodox synagogue, in the city center on the banks of the Uzh River. The synagogue building was built in 1904 according to the design of Gyula Papp and Ferenc Szabolcs in neo-Moorish style. The facade of the Philharmonic is lined with bricks and red ceramic tiles, the windows are decorated with red artificial marble. In the 1950s, by order of the Soviet authorities, the synagogue was rebuilt - all elements of the Moorish and Jewish cultures were removed, the glass dome was replaced with tin sheets. In 1957, the building was given to the Uzhgorod Philharmonic (now the Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic).
