The Jefferson Memorial is located on the southeast shore of the Tidal Basin, a scenic man-made reservoir. It was founded in 1943 and is dedicated to the memory of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. The central structure of the complex is the rotunda, inside which a bronze sculpture of Jefferson is installed.
