Start of our walk:

"SARANSK is an unfamiliar old acquaintance. Part 2. Nostalgic"

If you are not tired of Saransk yet, then let's move on : ). In this part of the story, I will show Saransk theaters and museums. Not all - but the most popular.

Let me remind you that in this text, very clumsily, but very sincerely tried to do something like "as it was - as it became. " And the photos of the 80s and 90s of the last century are taken from here , and some just from Yandex- pictures.

On the opposite side of Sovetskaya Street from the 4th building of Moscow State University (where we stopped in previous chapter) now there is a new building (2007) National Drama Theatre, performances are played here on Mordovian languages with translation into Russian. How it looks - unfortunately, I do not know. When I lived in the city, the national culture was somehow not respected or something, the Mordovian language was even embarrassed. For some reason, there were no school exits to this theater, in general, I didn’t even know about such a theater until the year the new building was opened. And now it is very curious to see, it will be necessary to somehow figure out a cultural-mass campaign.

And at the same intersection, opposite the National Theatre, there is a miraculously preserved building of the early 20th century, once owned by a local merchant, then what was not located in it: during the Civil War, here there was a mobilization department of the 1st Army (Eastern Front of the Red Army), then it housed the House of Unions, a hospital, the Supreme Court of the Mordovian ASSR, the board of the Writers' Union of Mordovia...

Once this intersection looked like this (on the right is the "pink" house, on the left is now the square in front of the National Theater)

Intersection of Rabochaya and Sovetskaya streets

Currently, this building houses Museum of Mordovian Folk Culture is a branch of Mordovia Republican Museum of Fine Arts. S. D. Erzi. Museum of Mordovian Culture quite ordinary, however, very necessary for preserving the traditions and history of the local population, the same as hundreds of other national museums in Central Russia, except that national costumes differ from each other, and visit or not visiting it is an open question. But the Museum of Fine Arts, in the common people, the Erzya Museum, I recommend it.

Modern view of the Museum of Fine Arts

Museum. S. D. Erzya before reconstruction

The main place in the museum's exposition is occupied by a collection of works by sculptor SD Erzya and artists FV Sychkov and IK Makarov, natives of Mordovia. The collection is constantly replenished with works by contemporary authors, and temporary exhibitions are held periodically. The exposition is quite large, so if you try to look at the whole thing, it will be very cursory, but it’s better to choose the most interesting for yourself first. I have absolutely no idea about sculptures, still lifes and portraits, I can talk at the level of "like - dislike". I like! As a child, I visited the museum several times, first with a class, then alone, then I brought my mother. In the winter of 2018 I visited again, now with my children. Well, the six-year-old son was somehow not very interested, except that he was very worried about the question: why are there so many naked aunts. But my daughter (7.5 years old) was carried away. She asked me the same questions that were once spinning in my head, how, mother, how can you think of it, how in a tree the sculptor saw such or another face...

Next to the Erzya Museum there is another reconstructed building of the city - Republican Palace of Culture - in the past the Palace of Culture of Trade Unions. To this day, it is the main concert venue of the city.

Before the reconstruction, the building looked like this (from a different angle)

If you go down Proletarskaya Street from this Palace,

Let's go out to the plane, it used to be a popular date place

It was installed in 1975 in memory of the combat exploits of aviators during the Great Patriotic War, natives of Mordovia.

Here is another cultural attraction of the city - State Russian Drama Theatre , which traces its history back to 1932. Actors sent from Moscow, who later remained in Saransk, took part in the creation of the theater. In 1935 the theater moved to this building

By the end of the 20th century, the building was very dilapidated. Plus all the same notorious landslide processes. There was talk of demolishing the building. I didn’t look for all the details on the net, but the building was repaired, the processes were probably stopped. And as a student, we went here, there was an overgrown ravine, to study landslides for practical classes

And this is how the ascent to the theater and the plane once looked like from the opposite bank of the Saranka River, from the Nizov

It was when we visited this Drama Theater that we received the first instructions from our school teachers: how to dress, how to behave in the theater, how to get to your seat correctly... And for us, the buffet was the most important thing : )) and a huge chandelier, I always I was afraid that she would fall : )) (photo from the Internet)

During the winter holidays this year, we made a trip to the Russian Drama Theatre, drinking is getting boring : ))

And the chandelier is in place, and the curtain is the same as it was 20-30 years ago. . . Another place where time has stopped

Probably, at every Soviet theater there was a cafe "Teatralny" ))

And now here MKhATik . Yes - like this)). In fact, of course, this is a play on words, and very successful, eye-catching.

I never managed to go to my dream : ))

So the city changes not only its external appearance, but also its internal, in this case theatrical, content. Actively boils and seethes, does not stop at the classical canons, alternatives appear.

Theater Square (intersection of Proletarskaya and Sovetskaya streets)

There ahead is the Ushakov Cathedral, Victory Square

The common beginning with the Russian Drama Theater is The State Musical Theater named after M. V. I. M. Yaushev, they were once together the Opera and Ballet Theater, which went on independent roads in 1969. Then there was a division into the Mordovian State Drama Theater and the Musical Comedy Theater, which later became Russian Drama Theatre and Musical Theatre. And since 2011, the musical theater has begun a new life within the walls of a new building (photo from the Internet)

This building is not entirely new, as it may seem, in fact, it is also a reconstruction of a building from the Soviet period - the House of Political Education.

If suddenly, when visiting Saransk, you want to diversify your leisure time by visiting theaters, everything can be planned in advance: tickets are sold on websites and at very affordable prices.

Here's someone who hasn't waited for the update yet, I hope this is a temporary omission, so this is the Puppet show. There were no photos of my own, but I was in the summer in those parts. The top picture is a modern look, the bottom one is how it used to be

Modern puppet theater

Puppet theater of my childhood

I think it used to be better. The theater moved to this building in 1979, and has been operating since 1938. We often had cultural-mass trips from school to the theater - this is such happiness! Firstly: we liked to ride on healthy Ikarus, a little less on LiAZs, straight fortune-tellers arranged which class would get which bus : )) - it was a whole EVENT! And secondly, children really always liked and like puppet shows.

In the first part of my story, I mentioned the local history museum, let's get back to it

The last time I visited the local history museum was in January 2018 and was terribly disappointed. Previously, the museum was located in the building of the former Three Saints Church. Small, cozy…

Already a former museum of local lore and so far the former Church of the Three Hierarchs

For the first time, of course, I got there with a class, and then, you won’t believe it, I just went with my girlfriends. Liked it. The time has come when the church building must be returned for its intended use in the Russian Orthodox Church, and the capital city urgently needs a museum corresponding to the title of the capital. The building was built for a long time, tediously, then the construction was hastily ended, quickly in September 2017 a new one was opened strong>, then a lot of things were redone, repaired, patched up. . . During the winter holidays in January 2018, when I was already tired of visiting guests, I took my family to the museum of my childhood, but in an updated format. At that time, viewing the main exhibition for all categories of citizens was free. Why take money? Frankly, I was upset. Okay, I'm an adult aunt, but the children were perplexed - is that all? One hall with imitations of village huts, several national costumes, and a few utensils and shards. Moreover, there was not a single accompanying signature. To my question to the ministers, “Where is the rest? "They answered me: " Well, we just opened. Well, well... I really hope that now they have brought everything to mind. I'll go to Saransk soon - I'll check : )

Views of the city from the Russian Drama Theatre

In Saransk, there are all kinds of museums, museum-apartments of prominent figures. But we won't go too deep : )

And that's not all, more to come
