Winter holidays in the Carpathians with children for reasonable money
Often you want to go skiing somewhere, but rest in the Carpathians is associated with a pretty tidy sum. What if there is no big money?
My sister and I decided to go to Transcarpathia. There was a plan to go skiing, to make the children (5 and 10 years old) interesting, and at the same time not to overpay extra money. Through the Internet, they found a house in the village of Polyana for a very reasonable amount. Having phoned the hostess several times, we clarified all questions regarding life. They even agreed to provide us with hot lunches.
We got to Svalyava by train. Minibuses often go to the village of Polyana. 15 minutes - and we were already in the center of the Polyana. There we were met by the owner and in a 3-minute walk we were "at home". A small but rather cozy outbuilding met all our requirements for a homely environment without special "show-offs": a toilet, a shower, a kitchen with all utensils and kitchen utensils, and one room. The room has a TV, a table, a large double bed and a huge sofa bed. Bed linen - snow-white and starched.
The meals were hearty and tasty, the portions were large.
Life was organized well and cost us a fairly modest amount. In hotels, prices were several times higher.
Directly behind the house - a hill with a lift. But there are no snow cannons. Didn't ride, the lift didn't work. Although if the lift worked, it would be very convenient - everything is nearby.
We went skiing to the mountain "Vedmezha" (altitude 730 m), up to which 1500 m. You can even walk on foot (we did it once), then we agreed with the locals - they brought us up. At the ski resort "Vedmezha" you can rent skis, snowboards, children's sleds or a snowmobile. But the manager is quite mercenary - even for the fact that their snowmobile (already paid) rides on their own snow, they had to pay separately. Rental prices: lift - children 50 UAH for half a day, adults - 100. Ski rental 75 UAH for half a day.
Pluses - the mountain is relatively flat and wide - for beginner skiers - just right. Professionals, I think, may not be very interesting. There is a small lift on the gentler part of the mountain for beginners and children. Children can ride on their own - they can be clearly seen from a higher section of the mountain.
Cons - there were not many people there at the beginning of March, so the work of the ski complex was decided "in the course of the play" by the manager. When we arrived, we learned that the lift would only work for 2 days. But it was cold, it started snowing and the lift worked until our departure. Cannons make snow if the night is maximum -3.
In general, we liked the rest: a 10-year-old girl, after one lesson with an instructor, skied from a small hill, a 5-year-old boy - on a snowmobile, we enjoyed skiing from a big mountain.
Once we went to Plai, it is very beautiful there, there are 2 chair lifts, but there are quite steep slopes and we were not so comfortable after Vedmezha.
Therefore, I can recommend the ski complex for parents with 5-10 year old children who want to ski themselves and make their children happy.
