The largest archaeological museum in Albania was built on the seashore in the city of Durres in 1951. Here you can get acquainted with the history of ancient Albania. The exposition of the museum contains artifacts from the ancient Greek and Roman periods, as well as from the early Middle Ages. In total, the museum has collected more than 20,000 exhibits. Artifacts, such as a collection of busts of Venus, are exhibited in a separate room, telling about the religious rites of ancient times. In the other halls of the museum there are fragments of ancient mosaics, tombstones of the Roman period, stone sarcophagi.
In 2010 the museum was reconstructed. There are plans to create an archaeological park on the territory of the museum with artifacts from different historical periods.
The doors of the museum are open to visitors from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 15:00

Interesting museum

A very interesting museum. Located in the city, almost on the beach. There are quite a few exhibits here: sculptures, paintings and handicrafts from the history of the country. The museum has a souvenir shop where you can buy reproductions of paintings exhibited in the museum. The museum has signs in English.→
