The choice of country and resort for skiing.

Last year, in early March, we went with a group (4 skiers and 3 snowboarders) for a week to Andorra/Pas de la Cassa. This was our first trip to the mountains, before that we only rode in the Moscow region: Stepanovo, Volen.

This year I wanted to go to some other place for a change. After reading a lot of reviews on the Internet, our choice fell on Austria / Mayrhofen, this resort was highly praised, and as it turned out, not in vain. The company gathered much less than just 1 skier and two snowboarders. Before our trip, two more of our friends visited the same place and everyone was very satisfied ! ! !

We went to conquer the Alps)))

26.02. 2011 departure at 13.40 from Domodedovo/Transaero to Salzburg. From there by bus (2.30 hours) to Mayrhofen. We were met by representatives of the tour operator (ICS travel group), told about ski areas, excursions, handed out maps of ski areas and the city. We also bought ski passes from them. Ski pass for 5 days out of 7 cost 180 euros.

(the ski pass includes transportation: bus, train) The guys said that before our arrival it snowed only three times. But there is enough snow in the mountains.

We arrived in Mayrhofen already in the evening, at about 19:00, checked into the hotel and went to look for a restaurant to have dinner and discuss our plans for the next day. On the advice of vacationers who knew us before, we went to the restaurant of the Kramerwirt hotel, to the left of the town hall - there is a menu in Russian, the portions are large, everything is very tasty. Then we walked around the city, the town itself is small, you can get around the mines on foot. for 40.

The lifts start working at 8.00 and finish at 16.30.

1.27. 02, day one - Ahorn. (small ski area, mostly blue pistes and one red 5 km piste descending back to the ski lift)

The weather did not please us with the sun, it snowed 4 times during the season.

On the first day, we decided to warm up: first we rode a little on the blue slopes, and then dashed off 35 km, descended 7 times on the red slope.

02, day two – Penken, Rastkogel, Eggalm, we didn’t reach Horberg

Waking up, we saw that the weather had not yet improved, according to the forecast on 01.03 they promised the sun, but it came out much earlier already at 11.00 on 28.02 and the weather was good until the end of the train.

For the second day we skated these zones.

The maps that were handed out to us indicated routes, by the way, very convenient, along which it was possible to drive, covering the entire ski area. We decided to follow them.

3.01. 03, third day - Hintertux, glacier - this ski area was remembered and liked the most. The only point is that it is worth going there only in good, sunny and calm weather.

The GreenLine bus goes to the glacier, the bus in Mayrhofen has three stops: the first at the station, the second in front of the Mannis hotel, the third a little further up the main street behind the bridge, next to the ski school and rental. The first bus departs from the station at 8.00.

It takes about 30 minutes to get to the glacier by bus.

There is an observation deck on the glacier at an altitude of 3250m.

There is a highway descending into the city to a stop.

4.02. 03, the fourth day is a day off.

We went on an excursion to Munich (55 euros).

The price includes an hour sightseeing tour by bus, min. 40 walking tour and 4-5 hours, if you're lucky, free time.

We managed to go to the BMW Museum on our own and had lunch at the famous beer house Hofbrä uhaus.

At 17:00 we went back.

In general, there are a lot of excursions from Mayrhofen, they are scheduled for every day. (Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Venice, palaces, Innsburg) Excursions to the Sworowski Museum are organized daily.

5.03. 03, day five – Arena

You can get to the Arena from the station by train to the Zill am Ziller station, this is the 3rd stop from Mayrhofen (min. 10), then there are buses from the station to the ski lift (min. 5)

A very large ski area, you can’t ski, but we liked it the least (((and could not understand why the Arena was praised so much. Maybe we were just unlucky that day ...

Rigid trails, in some places the ground was visible, in some places ice, a lot of people on chair lifts, in order to climb to the highest point there is only one line of lifts, along which the entire crowd rises from below and simultaneously descends along one track.

6.04. 03, sixth day - again we go to the glacier

There is also the Kattenbach ski area - this is the 6th stop from Mayrhofen by train, but we did not reach it.

Hotel selection

The hotel was chosen on the basis that it was convenient and fast (min. 5-7 on foot) to get to the ski lifts. There are 2 of them in Mayrhofen itself: Ahornbahn and Penkenbahn.

Initially, we chose the Garni Maximilian 3 * hotel, but since we were not confirmed with a single room, we were offered another hotel - Rauchenwalderhof 3 * and we stayed there. Hotel Rauchenwalderhof 3* I RECOMMEND! ! ! has a very convenient location. Near the two ski lifts mentioned above, Greenline bus stop, which goes to the Hintertux glacier, if you stand with your back to the hotel, then you need to go to the left.

There is a bus stop nearby, the cat runs around the city and to the station, next to this stop there is a Spar store - to the right down the road.

There were no problems with food.

At the hotel, we only included breakfast: cold cuts, cheese, processed cheese, eggs, bread, jams, yogurt, muesli, apples, tea, coffee, milk, juice. The breakfast was modest, but you can eat. We had a hearty breakfast, we didn’t really want to eat at lunch, so we had a snack in a cafe on the mountain, took sweets and chocolates with us, and in the evening we went to dinner at restaurants at hotels.

For all the time we dined in 4 restaurants: Brucke, Strass, Perauer, Kramerwirt, went to Brucke and Perauer 2 times. All restaurants have a menu in Russian, in Strasse and Perauer Russian-speaking waiters. Everywhere is very tasty and large portions. For the cost, we got about 50 euros for three.

Hot dishes from 10 euros, some served with salad.

There are three shops: 2 Spara (on the main street and near the Rauchenwald bus stop), in the second one there is much less people and more choice and Billa (near the town hall).

Butcher shop near the Penken lift.

I hope that my review will be useful to you.
