As promised to the administrator of the Morsko Oko hotel, I am writing a review ...
For some reason, my girlfriend and I chose Bulgaria for our joint vacation, because we finally wanted to visit some more or less European country. Of course, it was hard to get there: we flew from Khabarovsk to Moscow for 8 hours, then we walked there for a day and hung out at Domodedovo at night, because the flight to Varna was at 7 in the morning and check-in, respectively, began at 4, i. e. by the time we arrived at the hotel at 10 am local time, we did not sleep and even simply did not take a horizontal position for the second day. The hotel told us that check-in was at 12, our guide on the bus said the same thing, so we calmly put things in some room for the maids, changed our swimwear there and went to the beach.
At noon, completely exhausted, we again ask about our room, we are told that now it will be free at 14:00, explaining that it needs to be cleaned after the previous tenants (as if there were no other free rooms in September). Moreover, there was no talk of any kind of politeness, courtesy, correctness, regret on the part of the staff, this is not typical of many Bulgarians at all. Our polite request to show the hotel regulations, which should indicate that they check in exactly at 14:00, as well as the request to call the hotel administrator, was denied to us by a young man who, at the same time, talked to us imposingly lounging on a chair and smiling idiotically, apparently discussing us in their native language with the second girl from the reception periodically cackling. As it turned out, not only we were not accommodated in the room, but several other tourists, who were already almost asleep, tortured in the hotel lobby.
I repeat that the rest of the tourists, and we behaved very reservedly and politely. The administrator nevertheless appeared and began to laugh in front of us together with her managers, while speaking to each other in Bulgarian (although they all understand and speak Russian), showed a guest card, which indicated that their check-out time was at 12 (about settling in 14 is nowhere mentioned). We already asked to be settled in an uncleaned room, called the guide (who, by the way, also sent us off, saying that this did not concern her and that we ourselves would solve these problems, like all those that arise in general). What pissed me off the most was the incorrectness and the obvious arrogance of addressing clients and even just people who are twice as old (our friends, unfortunately, are two Muscovite women). The receptionist gave us the number with a wicked smile.
You can see the photo: pay attention to the broken, constantly leaking toilet bowl and the fungus in the bathroom and the corridor, to such trifles as the stained carpet, as if someone was being cut on the floor, and the windows stained with swallows (they have nests there), we even did not pay attention.
They tried to change the number, call a plumber, all to no avail, they decided not to spoil their mood and rest - they scored. Then we found out that only two hotels on Zolotykh belong to the state: Morsko Oko and Metropol… We know how to choose
Even in Turkey there was no such lawlessness, but about the Asian countries of Thailand, Vietnam, and even China (! ) I don’t say at all, the service there is at a very good level and this, in principle, could not happen (people value their work very much and are generally respectful to tourists).
By the way, don’t even ask about drinking water in the room and beach towels
In general, more than once later they encountered the amazing “politeness” and “benevolentness” of the Bulgarian people, they rarely smile. No one ever knows anything there, especially the reception and the guide (neither how to get to the stop, nor how and what buses run to Varna, nor when the doctor works in the hotel, etc. ), and even if they say, it is most likely lie (checked). Russians do not like - a fact. Even from the beach, where there are paid umbrellas and sun loungers, tourists who lie on their towels are asked to leave in different ways. We observed: a caretaker comes up and asks where you are from, if a Russian starts just yelling and driving him out of the fenced area, if another nationality patiently explains and asks to lie down.
By no means do I want to say that all Bulgarians are like this – NO!
There are very nice and smiling people: our maid, the guide from the tour to Balchik Galya, the bartenders of Arogans, the bartenders of our hotel Morsko Oko - generally very sincere guys (hello Martin! ), the organizer of the party "crawling through the clubs" Ivo-lapochka , yes and many more people.
Many Russians, Germans (especially Russian speakers) rest on Zolotye, there are French, English, Romanian, Turks, etc. There were only Russians in our hotel, mostly families and pensioners ...at first it generally led us to a stupor, after all, we read that many young people .
There really were a lot of young people, everyone gathers at night in clubs, two more or less decent ones: PR (near the Ferris wheel) and Arrogance.
There are more people (mostly young Germans and Bulgarians) in Arogans, generally a cool club: there are 4 halls with different types of music, we liked the R&B hall the most, there is also a hall with local national music (the Bulgarians themselves call it village ) and a chill out hall with sofas and quiet music where you can sit and relax, many, however, use this hall for something else In the evening, promoters stand on the street in the center and distribute tickets for free admission and a cocktail to Arogans.
Food. The food in Bulgaria is terrible. Of course, you will eat something, but everything is somehow without a soul and raisins. The meat was tried in almost all types of cooking - as if they were eating the sole. The choice of salads also does not shine with variety, I think you will definitely remember the Shopsky salad, because this is the main national salad and is present on all menus (tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese).
There are no salads with mayonnaise, and if there is, then it is not possible to eat them Delicious fish, but local catch (they have imported trout, it is better not to order). Many fruits are sold on the streets. Food prices are reasonable, a good dinner without alcohol averages up to 15 leva per person, wine costs an average of 18 leva a bottle. Prices for clothes are not very low, such as, for example, in China or at sales in Thailand, but about Moscow (I'm talking about youth brands). The most famous and largest shopping center is Mall Varna.
Of the excursions, we liked the trip to the botanical garden, Balchik Palace and Cape Kaliakra, very beautiful, picturesque and there is something to see.
Then there was another dinner with national dances on coals, but the price for this dinner is very decent, and the food, the organization itself is dumb (a lot of people, everything is crumpled, the bus takes away on schedule, but brings it much later than necessary), the main feature is the aunt later walks there on burning coals (in fact, there are no dances) - nothing special. Don’t get too carried away with free wine at dinner, in my opinion they add something to it, then a lot of people felt bad. In short, if you are not very eager to see dancing on coals, take a tour without dinner, if the guide does not have many offers for such excursions on the street.
Exchangers. It is better not to change money on the streets in exchange offices (they wind up commissions). There is an exchange in hotels and bank branches. A good course in Varna, but you shouldn’t go there specifically for this, the difference will be eaten up by the fare (taxi is different, but you can get there for 5 lev per person for four, or a bus -3 lev).
There is also a good rate for gold in one bank, but it’s not so easy to find it, either DNC or DSN ...I don’t remember already, it’s located not far from the Admiral, the ladder down to the beach from the promenade between the Serenada and Nachos restaurants seems to be (where gypsies sing). It is better to take euros with you.
Another local feature (well, at least it was not customary for us) is topless tanning. Every third female on the beach, and who really has something to show can be counted on the fingers. Basically, fat women who look like sows or women of retirement age are fond of this (to be honest, it’s rather disgusting). There is also a nudist beach behind the pier. As one couple we met at our hotel told us (they went to this beach once), there are a lot of naked old people rubbing their bodies against each other. It is clear that since then we have not even been close to the pier.
Summary: if you want to visit a European country with a European service. You are clearly not in Bulgaria with its Soviet hotels and service. Cheap and cheerful. Holidays for young people who love nightlife and parties, but of course also for families and pensioners
