We were in Bulgaria (Golden Sands) with my husband in June 2012. We liked the Preslav Hotel, first of all, for its unusual layout and architecture - it was built in the shape of a ring. Saw it through google and then looked around on the spot : -) - really interesting. The "Ring" gives its significant plus - a small cozy patio through which you can go to the beach (in 5 minutes). And if in bad weather you want to walk around the floor, then you definitely won’t get lost - after a while you will still go out to your room : -) (you can also rest on soft chairs along the way).
The rooms are different. We are relatively lucky. At first I was very angry and indignant at what we got, but when we looked at the subject “change our room” another option, we realized that we had very little. So, what are the possible problems:
- there is no shower cabin (and we didn’t even have a curtain imitating it) - you wash standing on the floor, into which everything flows;

- many rooms face the main street, which makes it noisy and therefore difficult to sleep; we were also in Bulgaria during the Euro period, when there were large screens near all the bars-restaurants on which football matches were loudly broadcast and near which the fans yelled even louder... in general, it was difficult to sleep, to put it mildly, and closing the balcony door too it was impossible, because... ;
We didn't have air conditioning in our room. more precisely, it was, but of a very socialist design - it worked with difficulty, and when it worked, the op of screens and fans was perceived as a love serenade (to justify the hotel in other rooms there were decent bourgeois air conditioners);
- our windows were also above the dining room, where work began at 5 am, but it was possible to control the start of all meals and even see what is being served today : -);
- hairdryer only at the reception.
If we talk about the bad, then the hotel is definitely not for lovers of chic-brilliance. It is clean, but very simple, even somewhat monastic. They say that, in fact, this building was once a monastery, which my husband and I readily believed: upon entering the hotel, you immediately feel the characteristic smell of church incense - light, on the verge of ghostly, but there. You quickly get used to it, but the first impression is amazing.
With problems and shortcomings like everything. Now about the good.
Nutrition. Delicious and plentiful. Quite a variety of lunch and dinner, but the same type of breakfast: milk porridge, cheese, sausage, jam, honey, etc. ; if you have time, you will try real Bulgarian yogurt - delicious. The first three mornings I was delighted (I love dairy and jam), but then it became sad. There were some national Bulgarian dishes: shopska salad, cabbage rolls in a grape leaf. In general, we were satisfied with the food.
Cleaning every day. Towels are provided - 1 per person. Change once a week.
The staff is friendly and willing to help and go the extra mile if needed. They are especially willing to meet if you use Bulgarian at least a little. Everyone speaks Russian more or less.

Room. As already noted, light, clean, neat, small. There is: a mini-fridge (in the bedside table), a double bed, a wardrobe, a TV (not useful), 2 bedside tables, a chair, a table, a mirror above the table. The walls are white. The furniture is wooden dark brown. For me, this combination is not particularly cozy, although quite stylish (monastic style).
There is a balcony with a table and 2 chairs. From the balcony, a beautiful view of the dining courtyard : -), neighboring hotels and treetops.
Bathroom. Clean; there is a sink, toilet, shelves and a shower (no shower).
"Infrastructure":
- The foyer is very cozy, there is Wi-Fi of quite acceptable quality.
- Canteen with delicious food
- Bar by the beach (we never used it, but we saw that it works : -))
- The bar in the foyer is quite decent: you can drink coffee-tea-strong and sit on Wi-Fi.
Note. Both in the dining room and in the bar in the lobby from 11:00 to 21:00 you can take local Bulgarian alcohol free of charge: white and red wine, rum, brandy, vodka, gin, liquors. Before and after the specified time, the assortment becomes much richer, but you can use it for money (we did not use it : -) - without need).
- There is a playground and a room for children, where children's animation is carried out. We heard that there is such a thing (sometimes very loudly), but we cannot say what is there in terms of content and quality, because. we do not know.
Another interesting point: you can go through the passage (which is often closed) to the neighboring hotel for various water treatments. The style is Soviet, but the prices are lower than in other "spa-centers".
So, the disadvantages: the lack of a shower stall; can be noisy; there is no view from the window as such; There is no hair dryer in the room and there may not be a proper air conditioner.
Advantages: close to the sea - 5 minutes walk; good friendly Russian-speaking staff; interesting architecture and interior with a touch of legend and antiquity; there is a cozy patio; there is a refrigerator in the room; park around the hotel.
Summary. Purely. Tasty. Interesting. You can live, especially if you are not partial to euro-chic-shine. However, check right away what kind of air conditioner you have in your room : -)
