This winter we managed to visit Freedom Island once again. Traveled from 7 to 21 December.
Unfortunately, Transaero did not arrange a charter in Varadero, so we flew to Havana with Aeroflot. 13 hours is tiring, but you can survive, given that the Guantanamera was waiting for us on the spot, the heat in December and alcoholic cocktails based on rum.
According to the tour program from Natalie, we had to spend two nights in Havana (Melia Cohiba 5 *), and then rush towards the "all inclusive", dolce far niente and the transparent Atlantic Ocean in Varadero (Iberostar Varadero 5 *).
Havana is an amazing city. Its inhabitants literally have their souls wide open. It is enough to take a walk in the evening along the streets of the Old Town to thoroughly find out how, with what and on what the Havanese people live.

You will not find glass in the windows, and behind non-existent glass - aggressive looks, no matter what house you look inside. An obligatory member of the family is a TV, but life is in full swing in areas not covered by its influence.
For example, we witnessed a dance rehearsal - little girls in black dresses with tufts on their smooth heads were demandingly tapping their heels to the beat of their teacher. In appearance, the teacher was strict, but in her soul a fire was clearly raging.
We also went to the Bodeguita bar, where Ernest Hemingway drank his nightly mojito. One young lady from our company was immediately noticed and danced by a Latino who turned out to be the mayor of a small Mexican town.
We were in the city museum, where you can get an idea of the life of the colonialists in those days when the cultivation of sugar cane still brought fabulous profits. We drank coffee for 1 local peso - about a ruble for our money.
In a word, we liked Havana - just like Melia Cohiba 5 *, named the best hotel in the city on the Natalie website. Indeed, the junior suite was roomy and pompous, with a view of the city from the windows (there are almost no lights at night! ) and a little bit of the sea.
On the first day, we found an envelope in the bathroom with words of welcome from our maid. I put it in a suitcase to put a tip before leaving, and on the second day a new envelope was found in the bathroom - already signed in Russian!
We only had breakfast, and breakfast was excellent even by five-star standards - lots of fruit, fresh juices, all kinds of omelettes on request. New flowers were put on the table every day.
In the mornings we went swimming in the pool - despite the fact that the ocean splashes across the road from the hotel, there is no beach in Havana itself. You need to take a taxi there - both ordinary cars and coco-taxi, which basically have a moped, are on duty at the hotel.
They should also be used to get to the city - on foot it turns out far. When discussing the price, bargain, but it is unlikely that they will take less than 8-10 cookies from the car (something between the dollar and the euro).

In Cuba, in general, an interesting situation with public and private transport. Car numbers are all colors of the rainbow. Blue numbers are for cars issued by the state. Theoretically, these should pick up hitchhikers on the roads.
While we were driving to Varadero, a huge number caught our eye. Waving banknotes, they tried to attract the attention of road users - but most often, to no avail. Well, at least it's warm there and fruits cost a penny.
Iberostar Varadero 5 * is such an oasis of civilization on the ocean. More than once we promised ourselves to make a sortie for his territory - but each time something turned out to be stronger. Either there was a walk to the pelicans, then the waiter brought a mojito, then right on the beach they roasted and distributed paella to everyone.
In a word, life in this hotel is exceptionally pleasant and eventful. All drinks, including alcoholic, are included in the price. Hangovers, considering the climate, do not happen. Breakfast is served until late.
One evening, by the will of fate, I ended up on the beach at night alone with two cocktails. Clouds swam quickly overhead, constantly changing the picture of the starry sky. I alternately swallowed from the glasses, so it became more and more difficult to lift my head. And all this could be summed up in one word - "happiness".
The hotel consists of many buildings, but the road to all the main places of power - to the beach, to the pools and to restaurants - takes a little time. It is almost impossible to go hungry there. We have been to Japanese - delicious, and most importantly, a chef works there, masterfully juggling knives.
During the day you can enjoy salads and burgers at the restaurant by the pool. There is a small bar right next to the beach. In general, the risk of getting fat would be present if not for the sea. It is so warm and gentle that all the calories accumulated at breakfast, lunch or dinner go into long swims.
On the last day, a bottle of rum was waiting for us in the room. But, no matter how much I tried, I failed to repeat that “Iberostar” mojito at home. Do you think 13 hours to get to the bar is too much?
