The Prague Wine Festival was first held in 1997 and gathered about three thousand spectators. After 12 years, the number of viewers has increased more than six times and today is about twenty thousand people. The festival is held jointly by the municipalities of Prague-2 and Prague-3. The basis of the festival is a costumed procession in historical costumes, which starts from the Grebovka winery (vinice Gré bovka) in the direction of the Mira land (ná mě stí Mí ru) to the land of Jiř í ho z Podě brad and Karlovo land (Karlovo ná mě stí ).

The solemn procession usually consists of heralds, mounted knights, violinists, trumpeters, drummers, jugglers and magicians. For the amusement of the audience, they show their skills and valiant prowess. On the site of Jiř í z Podě brady, the heads of Prague-2 and Prague-3, to the sound of a tambourine, begin the first pressing of grapes and the winemaking festival is considered open.

During the festival, a rich cultural program is provided - music, dance, theatrical performances, film screenings, an abundance of food and, of course, young wine. In addition, you can see how traditional Prague artisans work - blacksmiths, potters, leather workers, gunsmiths and others.

You will be able to observe the process of making young wine, taste fine wines and take part in sommelier competitions for the ability to determine the type of wine and vintage.

All this is washed down with young wine burč á kem, of which about 16 thousand liters are drunk during the holiday.

In 2010 the Prague Wine Festival will take place on 10-11 September. Its program can be found on the official website http://www. vinobrani. cz/.
