Rested from 9 to 23 January 2010. Two adults and a child - a girl of 7 years. Albatros Palace Hotel, Hurghada.
We went to Egypt for the first time. Worried about the weather, as there are very mixed reviews about it on the Internet. The weather did not disappoint. Maybe we were lucky, or maybe we are such hardened people, but we were not cold. We swam in the sea and sunbathed all two weeks of rest. When we first went to the beach, we were surprised by the absence of sunburned people. Then they realized - the sun does not rise high, the shadows are long and you have to try very hard to get burned. During the day, the feeling of a warm summer morning, in the evening it is cooler, sometimes sweaters were worn.
Much has been written about the hotel. Large, very clean area. Pretty green. Large comfortable rooms. Two Russian TV channels. Cleaned daily, but not very good. Often they did not have time to clean the room before dinner. Towels are also changed daily. The beach is bad - very shallow sea. But there is a large pontoon that goes into the sea for 200 meters. The depth of the sea near the pontoon is more than 2 meters. There are sunbeds on the pontoon so swimming was not a problem. The pontoon has a small coral reef, you can see the fish. And who really loves the sandy beach can go to a nearby hotel, where it is not bad. Hotel of the same chain, admission is free. I liked the sea. Pure clear, very dense water. The body rests on the surface without much effort. Good for those who are learning to swim.

There are three pools in the hotel. One large without heating (no one bathed - the water is cold) and two heated - for adults and children. The last one is good, with slides, it is always full of kids. The adult was not impressed - small, narrow though with a jacuzzi.
Meals at the hotel. You can’t say that it’s bad, but I wouldn’t call it excellent either. On the positive side - natural juices, although diluted with water, delicious freshly baked croissants, good coffee in a special bar. But - they don’t know how to cook meat at all (undercooked, very tough), there are few fruits, in a Thai restaurant it’s not Thai food at all.
Animation. In German, boring, but unobtrusive. There is a kids club.
A few words about what I read before the trip. There are flies, but at times, they are not very annoying. Planes over the hotel - fly. Nothing on weekdays, but on weekends, when the main race, it's a little annoying.
Tours. We tried to see more. We went to El Gunna (such a town for the rich, where Makarevich has a villa) and to the Red Sea. Then they went to the desert - they rode buggies, quad bikes, camels and went to the Bedouins. Luxor - Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings and more. Well, entertaining - 1001 nights and musical fountains. It's worth the trip, especially to the desert and Luxor.
Purchases. The process itself is specific and not very pleasant. We bought T-shirts, towels, small souvenirs, and then only because we had to bring gifts to friends. I didn't want to go to the shops again. Paid in local pounds. You can also use dollars, but they are counted at 5 pounds at a bank rate of 5.40.
In general, holidays in Egypt, like the weather in winter, are ambiguous. Good hotel, beautiful sea, but it's worth moving a little to the side - heaps of garbage right next to the road and poor angry, sexually horny people. But it is not for nothing that almost all hotels in Egypt work according to the “All” system. There is a way out - not to bother too much and spend the whole vacation in a hotel, swimming in the sea and sunbathing on the beach during the day, and sitting in a bar and drinking a cocktail in the evening.
