I want to share my impressions about my 23rd vacation in Egypt, the 2nd in Makadi Bay. Vacationing with my husband. We chose the Sunwing Family 5* hotel. The review will be long, because there are a lot of impressions.
Hotel selection: in 2018 rested in Makadi with a large company in another hotel. There were no reef and fish in our hotel at all, so we explored all the nearby underwater surroundings for the underwater world. I remember that I really liked the coral from the pontoon of 5 hotels of the Red Sea Hotels group. Pontoon is located in the very north of the Makadi Bay region and borders the Sahl Hasheesh region. When they were “ripe” for a vacation, out of 5 Red Sea Hotels, only “Sunwing Family 5 *” (second line) was not “in the foot”.
Transfer: Flight Kyiv - Hurghada 4 hours, flew on an MD-80 model aircraft, Bukovyna Airlines. The company was pleasantly surprised, the departure was on time, takeoff and landing were very smooth. Transfer to the hotel about 40 minutes.
Settlement and room: Settled immediately without surcharges.
We were given a room on the 3rd floor with a small sea view. I really liked the room. 2 rooms, total area 62 sq. m. In this hotel, the rooms are only of the "family" category, ideally designed for large families. The first room has a large comfortable bed, a large closet, a safe, bedside tables and an old TV. The second room has 2 small beds, sofa, large closet, mini-bar, large TV. There are so many places that I even lost my hat in the room for a couple of days (I found it in my husband's closet). Huge balcony with sun loungers and a table with a beautiful distant view of the sea. Separate bathroom with shower, separate shower behind a curtain, 2 washbasins near the mirror and another one in the toilet. There is a small hair dryer. Toiletries were not provided upon arrival. I don’t know if they forgot to put it in or not supposed to. I called the front desk and they brought it right away. The door of one of the cabinets was not screwed on, after a call to the reception they immediately fixed it. The room is very cozy and comfortable, soundproofing is good.
The cleaner cleaned well, but the room requires a general cleaning: washing curtains, washing windows, wiping dust in hard-to-reach places.
Territory: this is the "trump card" of the hotel. Very green, well-groomed, huge palm trees, mature trees. The architecture is oriental, all around is molding, forging and wood carving. It seems that you are visiting the palace of the Sultan, and not at the hotel. The territory is shared with Sunwing Waterworld Makadi 5 * (first line), all restaurants, bars, swimming pools, water park and entertainment are shared. In addition, you can walk around the territory of all 5 hotels of the Red Sea Hotels group (each is magnificent in its own way). At night, the “lazy river” is illuminated, illuminated fountains work all around. In the morning, the paths are washed with soapy foam.
Pools and water park: pools 8, but we were only where the adult water park. We saw a relaxation pool, around which there are huge sunbeds in the form of tents, it looks romantic. There are 2 water parks: children's and adult.
But, the hotel has one more “trump card”: 5 “a la carte” restaurants, and Crepes & Sweets offers fresh fruits, ice cream, pancakes and waffles from morning to evening. Restaurants for dinner by appointment, there are dishes on the system "all inclusive", there are dishes for an additional fee. Drinks are the same. In addition to dinner, you can also have lunch in these restaurants, and have breakfast in the Mediterranean. I really liked the restaurants of Mexican, Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. We have not been to Kebab Island, and the German restaurant was not appreciated.
The "trump cards" did not end there. You can visit 7 Makadi Mall restaurants by appointment. In 5 there are dishes on the "all inclusive" system, there are dishes for an additional fee, in 2 everything is paid. Drinks only at an additional cost. We have been to Golden Dragon - a la carte Chinese restaurant (loved it, really spicy dishes), La Maison de Paris - a la carte restaurant of French cuisine (not bad) and Mafia Classic - a la carte restaurant of Italian cuisine (very liked).
Such "trips" to a la carte restaurants greatly diversified the impression of the cuisine.
Bars: 10 (Sport Bar for an additional fee, Lobby Bar 24/7 alcoholic drinks for an additional fee). The rest are all inclusive. We didn't go all the way. Favorite bar was near the beach, where they hold shows in the evening. Very cool bartenders, great service. I drank wine and canned beer, the quality is good. The husband tried stronger alcohol, praised. Large selection of local alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks: rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, beer, juices, fanta, sprite, cola. I especially liked the fact that every evening there is live music in 2 bars: guitar, violin, vocalists. They perform world hits for every taste, except for pop. The audience is dancing. It is very cool!! ! Huge plus for the hotel!
Animation. I love the spectacle after the "bread", so I appreciate the quality shows. The first few days of the show were great: fakir show, oriental dances, dance fusion.
We bought a foam party on the beach for 10 euros per person, we were not interested in foam, we had soap in the room))) but we watched the fire and light show with pleasure. Then the head of the animation team changed, and everything changed for the worse. The humorous show was completely without humor, and the acrobats did not come at all, because the new chef changed the schedule. Shopping Transfer to Hurghada: The hotel provides free transfer to and from Hurghada 2 times a day. You can walk for a few hours or do some shopping. You don't need to take a taxi. Nice bonus.

We snorkeled in front of the Fort Arabesque hotel, it is almost always calm there. Coral is a set of small islands that are not deep and well lit. It is very suitable for beginners: there is no huge depth and there is living creatures. Very beautiful "trifle" and absolutely not shy butterflies, they just ask to be made stars of the screen.

When it's completely calm, it's a paradise for snorkelers. We went to the pontoon and swam in the direction of Sahl Hasheesh to the north and to the side of our hotel to the south. Barrier coral, significant depth. Nearby there are coral islands. The north wall is richer. The coral itself is very beautiful, just incomparable architecture and palette. Such unusual combinations of coral varieties form a very talented underwater picture. Don't take your eyes off. Living creatures are present: a bright and beautiful "trifle", a lot of stingrays and giant moray eels, huge flutes, groupers, parrots, heilins, butterflies, amphiprions, you can't list everything. I was very pleased with the turtle, which “flew” off the coral cover and allowed me to swim next to it. You need to see it once.

We went north to Sahl Hasheesh Bay. Snorkeling from the Premier Le Reve Hotel & Spa pontoon, first to the north (the coral is gray, there is absolutely nothing to see), and then to the south, to the Tropitel Sahl Hasheesh pontoon and a little further south.
There the coral is not bad, interesting architecture. There are a lot of “little things” from living creatures, stingrays, flutes, we found a luxurious lionfish. They saw a moray eel just a giant, I don’t even know how many meters, beauty.

The tour was planned, but for technical reasons it fell through. No worries, the hotel had plenty to do and see. One week is not enough.
The overall impression of the rest: the hotel can become one of the best in the region, but so far it is not improving a little. Of the significant disadvantages, I will highlight the urgent need for general cleaning of the room, the mediocre new chief of animation. They also forgot to wish me a happy birthday. Among the advantages, I will single out an incomparable territory, a cozy large room, excellent service, a cool water park, wonderful live music, a huge selection of restaurants and bars. The sea did not disappoint, but believe me, I have something to compare. I will definitely be back, God bless!
